The ring main power distribution system is power distribution system in which each distributor is fed via two feeders. In order to achieve this system, the primaries of distribution transformers are looped in such a way that loop circuit starts from substation, makes a loop through the area under coverage and ends back to the origin at substation. The figure below displays a schematic diagram of AC distribution ring main system.
Advantages of Ring Main Distribution System
- It is more reliable than radial system, since each distributor is fed via two feeders
- Voltage fluctuations are less at consumer terminals as compared to radial system
