8 Features of Underground Cables

An underground cable comprises of one or more conductors that are covered using suitable insulation and is surrounded by a protecting cover. The underground cables should have following five features:

  1. The conductor that is employed in cables should be of tinned copper or aluminum that is having high conductivity.
  2. The cable should be stranding so that conductor remains flexible and can carry more current
  3. Conductor should be appropriately sized in order to deliver desires amps without overheating
  4. Conductor should be well designed to not drop voltage beyond permissible percentage
  5. The insulation used should have proper thickness so as ensure reliability and safety of operations
  6. The cable should be strong enough to withstand the impact while laying it
  7. The cable material should have chemical stability
  8. The cable material should have physical stability
